Introducing… Colour. Hailing from across the North of England, it was a combination of classified ads and friends' recommendations that ultimately brought the band together. Although they are a guitar band at heart, Colour use the guitar in a different way to most northern indie bands, with a sound that is more in step with Everything Everything or Foals than Oasis.
Collectively travelling over 300 miles a week to rehearse, this is a band whose dedicated work ethic is plain to see. Favouring a DIY approach, they spent over a year in the studio honing the sound before taking it to the stage, producing everything from their own artwork to videos and captivating a local fan base. All of Colour’s gigs to date have sold out, generating rave reviews from local BBC Radio DJs and Music Blogs, who hailed it as an exciting new direction in guitar music. This burst of activity earned the band the Merseyside Arts Foundation fund and named them BBC Introducing ‘Band of the Year 2014.’
Colour's first offering is the quite wonderful ‘Strangers’. Recorded in Liverpool’s Parr St Studios (notably where Coldplay recorded their first ever demos – the same piano used on The Scientist still sits in the room), the track was put together in a flurry of frenetic energy after singer James recorded a rehearsal on his phone, capturing the seeds of the song taking shape. The video for ‘Strangers’ premiered on Clash Music earlier this week.

The Sneaky Nixons
The Sneaky Nixons describe themselves as an angry, semi-political, semi-religious, part-feminist sloppy activist group who play riotous, steam-train guitar music. They have declared war on electronic dance music, guns, promoters, and non-believers of their Rock-n-Roll terrorism.
Flashy, arrogant and with a startling superiority complex , the band say they have no time whatsoever for humdrum normality, preferring the out of control, dangerous and volatile, in order to live their lives in a brutal, riotous and rock-n-roll fashion.
Ruby sky is a red-headed singer/songwriter based in Liverpool. With her catchy chorus 'and poignantly poetic lyrics, it's no surprise that she repeatedly secured grand finalist positions in the UK and Nashville songwriting competitions last year.
Whilst she completes her final year studying music at LIPA she continues to perform locally as both an acoustic singer/songwriter and with her 5-piece pop/rock band. She has recently released her charity single 'They Need You' inspired by the real life stories of WW2 war veterans with all proceeds from the single going to the Royal British Legion.
It's available to download on iTunes now and you can watch her music video here http://youtu.be/1AR3oWC1T04 . There's a raw but beautiful honesty here that's unavoidably addictive.

The Ragamuffins are a cavalcade of musical buccaneers that deliver captivating, exhilarating and ever so infectious indie-pop songs by the bucket load. Within the past 12 months they've co-written a song with the man behind most of Otis Redding's biggest hits, received airplay on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, had one of their latest music videos premier in a packed cinema in the centre of Sheffield, played gigs in castles, former prisons, derelict churches and other venues from lakesides to libraries to living rooms while sharing more traditional stages with the likes of The Beat, Ezra Furman, Dodgy, Steve Cropper, The Farm and more. All this while working on a new, full-length, fourteen track album, out in January 2016, called "Over On The Shipping Forecast".
They've sailed some stormy seas to get to this point, make no mistake. Captained by songwriter and vocalist David John Jaggs, the prototype Ragamuffins played their first ever gig alongside a fledgling Everything Everything at Liverpool's Cavern Club in 2008 and a year later were jetting off to Italy and Austria to play music festivals alongside Dizzie Rascal and Biffy Clyro, aided and abetted solely by donations from fans of the band through social media.
This was before University came calling for founder members, robbing the band of it's upward trajectory somewhat until, once again, fan intervention and assistance in 2012 lead to the band bursting back into life in the expanded and re-energised format of today, culminating in a sold-out show alongside Ian Prowse & Amsterdam at Liverpool's o2 Academy that December. Since then, The Ragamuffins have musically gone from strength to strength, reinforcing a traditional guitar pop sound with a now signature brass section and bringing in elements of Northern Soul, Funk, Disco and even Punk to proceedings. The band regularly draw comparisons with Dexy's Midnight Runners, early Elvis Costello (it's the glasses, isn't it?) and Belle & Sebastian at their very liveliest. From the band's most tentative beginnings their musical philosophy always revolved around wanting to make the biggest, warmest and most engaging pop music they possibly could and this hasn't changed, so expect vocal melodies that soar high above swirling organs, soulful brass, chiming guitar, driving bass and heart pounding drums to deliver perfectly packaged, virtually irresistible indie pop songs.
You can download a FREE taster track (recorded during the same sessions that have given birth to the new album) called "Generosity Killed The Fat Cats" by clicking the "Buy" link on our Soundcloud site or to directly from our Bandcamp site here. It's full of blaring cajun trumpets, swirling tornado organ parts, driving rhythms and chiming guitars. We thought we'd give our more impatient fans a special treat while they wait!
The band will be playing at Manchester's Joshua Brooks on Tuesday February 2nd and having an album launch party event at Liverpool's The Caledonia pub on Thursday the 21st of January. There'll also be some solo acoustic and piano shows in Lancaster (9th January, Merchant's 1688), Edinburgh (10th January, Boundary and 12th January, Bannermans) and even a Christmas show (!) at The Ribble Valley Christmas Fair (4th December, Clayton-le-Dale, Nr Preston) that David is playing on his own.
Paul Straws is a well disciplined student of both the craft of songwriting and the ancient art of loop pedalling. He is on the road in 2015 playing the best from a back catalogue of a decade's worth of material - lauded for his 'great songwriting' by BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson, and oft championed by Dave Monks at BBC Introducing.
On record, Straws' songs are beautifully awash with mandolins, ukulele, glorious harmonies and gorgeous cello, and tells tales of love, life, regrets, and whatever else happens to be bothering him at the time. Live, Paul performs with as many instruments as he can carry to a venue and puts them all through his loop pedal and in the past year, he has supported Scott Matthews, Simone Felice and Mary Epworth.
Straws is gradually building his following, both on and off line, aided by his DIY passion for collaborating on his videos, produced by Liverpool TV, including a hand drawn animation for “You Wouldn't See It That Way”. He has also managed two top five entries in the Qatar alternative radio top 40, including a number 1 for “The Crooked Branches Fall”.
"After delighting with light, well-crafted mandolin and ukulele led folk pop, the local songsmith plays two filthy numbers straight from the oeuvre of Prince."
(Bido Lito Live Review)
"Sultry, sinister snake of vocal...beautifully maudlin melodies and harmonies"
"Impish grin and delectable guitar playing...a cracking set of music from a very talented musician"
(Ian D Hall LS Media)
"Serene but with the hint of honour...he made the (ukulele) sound as if a passing angel had found it and given it a bash just for the sheer hell of it"
(Liverpool Sound and Vision)
"Shine he will as he is huge eye-candy...talented and original"

The Boston Shakers
An infusion of heavy beats mixed with fuzzy guitars, shaken with raps and garnished with a dash of white noise.
Originally from France and the US, electronic rock band The Boston Shakers are now based in Liverpool.
The band started when six friends with the same passion for music and drinks decided to blend the musical genres they had been listening and playing for years with the nightlife atmosphere and environment they were working in as bartenders.
The resulting songs combine the different ingredients and sounds that have influenced the members of the band, from the authenticity of Blues and the rawness of British Rock to the samples, drums, and production techniques of Hip-Hop and Dance music.
With big MPC beats, wailing guitars and captivating raps served "on the rocks", The Boston Shakers are a cocktail of good vibrations you won't get enough of.
